GSE Engineers to Present at HydroVision International 2012

Five engineers from Gomez and Sullivan Engineers, P.C. will attend the HydroVision International 2012 conference which takes place from Tuesday, July 17, to Friday, July 20, at the Kentucky International Convention Center in Louisville, KY.

The four-day conference, one of the largest international water resources engineering conferences in the world, boasts more than 300 exhibitors, multi-track conference sessions, concurrent presentations of technical papers, and a poster gallery.

This year’s keynote speakers are Colonel Luke T. Leonard, commander of the United States Army Corps of Engineers, Marc S. Gerken, president and CEO of American Municipal Power, Inc., Paul W. Thompson, senior vice president of energy services at LG&E and KU Energy, and Pierre L. Gauthier, president and CEO of Alstom in the U.S. and Canada.

Jerry Gomez will serve on a panel titled, “Outcomes and Impacts of the PFMA Process,” where panelists will discuss whether the potential failure modes analysis (PFMA) has improved dam safety, and learn the cost, benefits, and outcomes of the PFMA process.

Damian Gomez and Michele Stottler will present their respective papers, “A Case Study in the Use of Computational Fluid Dynamics Models for Dam Safety Analyses” and “Incorporating Habitat and Recreation Components for License Compliance Projects,” during sessions focusing on hydrology and hydraulic modeling, and hydropower development and ecological and social sustainability.

At the poster gallery, Mark Wamser and Tom Sullivan will present their respective work, “Removal of the Merrimack Village Dam” and “Shad and Eel Passage at the Conowingo Project.”
