Waterbury Hydroelectric Project, VT

Green Mountain Power contracted with Gomez and Sullivan to conduct an instream flow study below the Waterbury hydroelectric project on the Little River near Waterbury, Vermont. Our staff developed detailed habitat maps for 2.5 miles of the river below the dam, and selection of representative habitat transects was coordinated with state and local agency personnel. A total of eight transects comprising riffle, run, and pool habitats were analyzed at three target flows. Hydraulic and habitat models were prepared to illustrate the relationship between flow and habitat for four fish species: rainbow trout, brown trout, longnose dace, and longnose sucker. The habitat results and Weighted Usable Area (WUA) curves were evaluated to determine appropriate minimum flows below the project.
